Hong Kong Government Relents after Tiananmen-Style Protests

Students and residents in Hong Kong who have been staging a large-scale protest against their government's "moral and national education" plan won a big victory yesterday as the government stepped back on the plan.

The plan, backed by Beijing, is intended to "instill patriotic fervor for mainland China," according to a New York Times report but is widely perceived by Hong Kong students as an attempt of forced brain washing. Those students staged multi-day street protests that involved tens of thousands in demonstrations, including large sit-ins and hunger strikes.
